Dwayne Wade is a professional NBA player who is currently playing for the Miami Heat. He won an Olympic Gold Medal for the United States Basketball team in 2008. He is playing as a Shooting guard.

Early Life

Dwayne Tyrone Wade Jr. was born on January 17, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents divorced when he was four months old. He was raised by his older sister and grandmother in a crime-ridden neighborhood. He began living with his father when he was about eight years old. Her mother was a drug addict and not a good mother to him.

Wade went to Harold L. Richards High School, where he played both football and basketball. He wasn’t able to find a reputable college because of his poor academic records. Later, he attended Marquette University, which led him to his professional career. He joined the university’s basketball team, but could not play because of his low grades.

Despite not being able to play, he never left his team’s side. He gave them advice on defenses and scoring. In the following years, he worked on his academics and was able to play. He instantly became the best player on his team with around 17 points per game. They won the Conference USA and became one of the final four at the NCAA tournament.

Basketball Career

He debuted his NBA career in the 2003-2004 season where he played for the Miami Heat. He was named player of the year in 2004 at the Eastern Conference. This makes him the very first player to get an NBA honor from the team. From being a weak team, Wade led the team to its bronze medal in the Olympics in 2004 and an NBA victory in 2006. From 16.2 points each game in the first season, Wade improved to around 24 points in the second season.

Unfortunately, a severe knee injury affected his numbers and performance. Even after the surgery, he still performed poorly. He recorded his lowest point average of his entire career during the 2012-2013 season. Wade suffered from a hamstring injury in the 2014-2015 season and missed seven consecutive games. After struggling on the Miami Heat team, he left the team in 2015.

Wade signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bulls. He first played for the Bulls in the 2016-2017 season. He sustained a fractured elbow in March 2017 leading to Bulls’ defeat over Boston Celtics. On September 24, 2017, the Bulls decided to buyout with Wade. He then signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, Cavaliers traded him back to Miami Heat on February 8, 2018.

His Final Season

Wade started the 2018-2019 with a victory against the Milwaukee Bucks. Miami Heat ended the Philadelphia 76ers’ 17-game winning streak. He became the third player to record at least 20,000 points, 5, 000 assists, 4,000 rebounds, 1,500 steals, 800 blocks, and 500 three-pointers on January 6, 2019. He also recorded his first career triple-double in his final game on April 9, 2019.

Wade retired as Miami Heat shooting guard on February 22, 2020.

Wade received numerous NBA titles during his career. It includes 3 times NBA Champion, 13 times NBA All-Star, and NBA scoring champion.
