Now, are you ready to get started? Here's an in-depth look into Durk's life:

Early Life

Durk Banks, known professionally as Lil Durk, was born in 1992 in Eaglewood, Chicago. He did not have an easy childhood due to his father being incarcerated when he was only a couple of months old.

As a result, a lot of responsibility was thrust upon him. He often tells childhood stories of not having enough food to eat and not doing well in school because of his family's lack of money.

When he was young, he created a Myspace page and Youtube channel to help support his family. He always knew he wanted to be a popular rapper but never took the profession seriously, that is until his son was born when he was seventeen.

Then he dropped out of school, and pursued being a songwriter. However,  at first it wasn't earning him much money so he joined a street gang to make money faster.

Shortly thereafter, he ran into trouble with the law. His troubles with the law made it difficult to join a label, so instead, he released his music as an independent artist. That is until he created his own label called Only the Family.

Career

Lil Durk has had many career ups and downs over the past decade. Let's take a look at some of his career highlights:

2011-2012

2011 was the first year that he started taking his career in rapping seriously. He was offered to join Chief Keef and French Montana's label; however, with his legal issues, the offer was rescinded, claiming that he was not a good fit for the label's brand. Soon after he released two singles, "Sneak Dissen" and "I'm a Hitta." Both received positive critical feedback, and in the later part of 2012, he released a third single titled "Life Ain't a Joke."

His third single has been downloaded over 200,000 times, and he received praise for his individualistic lyrics and new sound. As a result, French Montana asked him to work on a track called "L's anthem."

2013-2014

Due to the success of "L's anthem," Durk released a follow-up track in 2013. The track received good reviews; however, he felt limited by what he could do since he didn't have a label. Soon he created his own label called "Only the Family" with investments from Def Jam Recordings.

After his business venture, he went on to release a mixtape titled "Signed to the Streets." Signed to the Streets did relatively well; however, since he wanted more sales from it, he created eight different music videos to promote his work.

The music and their respective videos caught the attention of Rolling Stone and named it the eighth best in 2013. Upon that rave review, he produced a follow-up mixtape appropriately titled "Signed to the Streets 2."

2015-2016

In mid-2015, Durk released his first album titled "Remember My Name." The album quickly went to number fourteen on the US 200 charts. The album sold over 25,000 copies in its first week alone.

Later that same year, Durk released another mixtape. However, unlike his first, he only made one music video for the tape. It contained the song "My Beyonce," which was the only song promoted. The single itself was certified gold.

In 2016, he released his second album titled "Lil Durk 2x." The album sadly didn't meet the standards set by the first and as a result, it only peaked at number twenty-nine.

So to improve his standing, he later released another mixtape. The mixtape was a decent success; however, it wasn't as popular as his earlier material.

2017-2019

He started feeling the pressure of having to be successful, so he released several mixtapes throughout the year of 2017. However, none accumulated great success or critical acclaim. He would later state that he felt stifled by his contracts and was simply putting out music to fulfill his contractual obligations.

Once he fulfilled his contract with Def records, he left and became an independent artist again. Then that same day, he released another mixtape which was the first mixtape to chart on the billboard 200 charts. It scored 57 place on the billboard chart and number 22 on the top rap and hip hop charts.

In 2018, he announced that he signed with Alamo records and released his third studio album, "Signed to the Streets 3." The album did relatively well; however, it didn't garner the success he hoped for. With his fourth studio album in 2019, "Love Songs 4 the Streets 2," he increased the amount of guest appearances the album had, and it soared all the way to number 4.

The album increased his popularity as an American rapper and made him a big name in rap and hip hop once again. With this recognition, he was able to work with some of the best rappers in the business.

2020-2021

Now, 2020 was his best year yet. He released his fifth album, titled "Just Cause Y'all waited 2." The album was a continuation of his popular mixtape, and it showed. The album features one of his highest-charting songs, "3 Headed Goat." At first, it climbed to number five on the US hot 200 charts; then, in the following weeks, it soared all the way to number 2.

Due to his success, he was offered to be featured on Drake's track, "Laugh Now Cry Later." The song went straight to number two on the US hot 100 charts, making it one of his highest-topping features. At the end of the year, he released his sixth album, "The Voice." It performed well; however, it didn't garner the popularity of some of his other work.

Then in 2021, he appeared on Kanye West's album "Donda" for the song "Jonah." He also made guest appearances on Drake's studio album. The songs did well to promote his music and his individual sound. However, he did not release any songs himself in 2021.

2022-Present

In 2022, he released a new single and his seventh album, "7220." The album was a huge success for the rapper. It charted at number one on the US billboard 200 charts and sold over 2,000 copies in pre-album sales. The album even garnered more than 160 million streams, making it his most successful album yet.

To promote his album more, he performed various concerts. At one concert, he was struck in the head with an explosive. Recently he announced that due to his injuries, he will have to reschedule his performances and hold off on recording until further notice.

It's speculated that his injuries were so severe that it might take at least a year or two until he can concentrate on his music again. While he reports that he is doing okay, he stresses that he wants to ensure he is fully healthy before going back to work.

Other Business Ventures

In 2022, Durk launched his NFT digital sneaker called "7220." Soon after his sneaker launched, he created his own digital wearable company called NXTG3NZ. He stated that he wanted to revolutionize the NFT and Metaverse industry with his clothing brand.

His clothes are created by designer Devonte' Black and are able to be purchased at the cost of 10,000 tokens or more. They can be used on avatars across all digital platforms. Now, Durk has not commented on what his next clothing line will be or the inspiration behind the pieces himself.

However, he has said that he wants people to learn from his business. He ultimately wants to display that you don't have to be thoroughly educated or be an expert on NFTs to create and use them. His goal is to inspire individuals who fear they don't have enough experience to create for themselves.

Speaking about his business, he said that he doesn't want people to hold themselves back due to the fear of failure. Instead, he encourages people to dream and act on their wants and needs. His NFT business is an testimonial that people can do what they dream.

Personal Life

It's been reported that Durk has six children. He is currently engaged to his girlfriend, India Royale.

However, life hasn't always been easy for the rapper. Back in 2014, Durk's cousin was murdered, then a year later, his good friend and manager was killed.

Then in 2020, his best friend was murdered, and in 2021, his brother was shot and killed. A month after his brother's passing, he and his fiancee were targets of a home invasion. No one was harmed, thankfully; however, since the suspects ran from the scene, they haven't been found or brought to justice.

Recently, Durk announced that he has converted to the Muslim faith. He announced this news in his 2020 song, "Viral moment." However, since then, he has been more open about his religious journey, stating that Islamic prayer has become a comfort to him and helped him find peace after his best friend's death.

Lil Durk's Net Worth

It's estimated that Lil Durk's net worth is around $8 million. He has created a handful of successful songs, but the majority of them have not risen to the level of success of other independent rappers. He thus makes around $500k annually from his song royalties and concert performances.

If he continues to earn around the same amount of money, projections state that he will have a net worth of over $10 million in the couple of years.
