Early Life

Frank Carlton Serafino Ferrana, Jr. was born on December 11, 1958 in San Jose, California. His grandparents and mother raised him after his father left their family. However, his mother, Deana Richards, abandoned him too. This is when he started to move from places to places. He stayed in Jerome, Idaho, where he began shoplifting and breaking into homes. He also sold drugs in school and got expelled. His misbehavior triggered his grandparents to send him to his mother in Seattle. This is where he learned to play bass guitar, which he bought using the money he got from selling a stolen guitar.

Career

At the age of 17, Sixx moved to Los Angeles. While auditioning to bands, he sells vacuums over the phone and works in a liquor store. He then joined the band Sister as a bass player. However, he was fired from the band along with his mate Lizzie Grey. They then worked together and formed the band London in 1978. Afterwards, he legally changed his name to Nikki Sixx.

Moetly Crue

When he left London, he co-founded Motley Crue with drummer Tommy Lee in 1981. Mick Mars and Vince Neil completed their line-up as leading guitarist and vocalist, respectively. In the same year, they’ve released their debut album Too Fast for Love. Motley signed with Elektra Records and re-released their album. It was followed by Shout at the Devil, which helped the band raise their popularity. In 1989, they released Dr. Feelgold, which was a commercial success and stayed on the charts for 114 weeks. Most of the materials and tracks of the band are written by him.

Sixx became addicted to heroin during his time with the band. He had undergone to rehabilitation centers. After getting better, the band continued to rise to fame and release hit albums.

The band split for a while, but got reunited in 2006 and completed a reunion tour. They also released their ninth album Saints of Los Angeles on June 24, 2008. Motley Crue officially retired in 2015.
