Ray Romano is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and screenwriter, who is best known as the voice actor of the computer-animated character "Manny" in the Ice Age film series. He is also known for his role on the sitcom television series Everyday Loves Raymond.

Early Life

Raymond Albert Romano was born on December 21, 1957 in Queens, New York. He is the second son of Luciana and Albert Romano. His mother was a piano teacher, while his father was a real state agent and engineer. Romano has an older brother, Richard, and younger brother, Robert. He mostly spent growing up in the Forest Hills neighborhood in Queens.

Romano attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills in elementary and middle school. In 1975, he graduated from Hillcrest High School, and attended Queens College in Flushing, New York, where he studied accounting.

Career

Romano competed in the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search in 1989, where his comedy career started. He appeared on The Comedy Channel, and had been a recurring guest voice on the American animated show, Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. Romano also made an appearance on the late-night talk show, Late Show with David Letterman, which created his ties with the network CBS.

Later on, Romano started his own show, Everybody Loves Raymond on CBS, and received several awards and nominations including  a six Primetime Emmy Award nominations as Outstanding Lead Actor in a comedy series, won in 2002, and two Emmy Awards in 2003 and 2005, when his show won as Outstanding Comedy Series.

He won $125, ooo for the NYPD's D.A.R.E unit when he was featured on a 2000 episode of the game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. In the year 2004, Romano became the highest-paid television actor in the history for his role on CBS's Everybody Loves Raymond, and the show also broken another record with a revenue of $3.9 billion.

The documentary film "95 Miles to Go" made Romano as the subject and document's his road trip for a series of rides across south of the United States, and was released on April 7, 2010 in theaters, by ThinkFilm.

Romano made several appearances in other television series like NBC's series "The Office", ABC's sitcom "The Middle" where he played the role as Nicky. In 2002, he voiced the woolly mammoth Manfred or also called "Manny" in the computer-animated film, Ice Age and its sequels.

In the year 2019, he portrayed the character Bill Bufalino in Martin Scorsese's crime film, The Irishman, and starred in the Netflix comedy film, Paddleton.

Personal Life

In 1987, Romano married his wife Anna Scarpulla. In February 2012, Romano disclosed that his Anna successfully battled stage one breast cancer in 2010, and stated in People magazine that "the reason we're going public is to share our experience, yeah, but to have an effect. Our goal is to help people".

His family also has made appearances in some shows. His daughter, Alexandra has made several appearances on Everybody Loves Raymond as "Molly", the best friend of his on-screen daughter, Ally. His wife, Anna, appeared as one of the moms in the background in season 6's episode. Romano's father, Albert, also made appearances in various episodes such as "Debra at the Lodge" and "Boys Therapy". His brother, Richard, appeared in the episodes "The Toaster", "Golf For It", and "Just a Formality".
