Selena Gomez was born on July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas. Her parents, Ricardo Joel Gomez and Amanda Dawn Cornett decided to divorced when she was five years old. She have two younger half-sisters Gracie, from her mother's side and Victoria through her father's. Selena Gomez was born when her mother was still 16 years old. She grew up and was raised by her grandparents. In May 2020, Gomez earned her high school diploma through home-schooling.

Selena got her start in show business when she auditioned for Barney and Friends, where she met Demi Lovato. She had a brief appearance in the film Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003 and made a guest appearance in two films Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire in 2005 and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody in 2006.

In the following years, she earned more work from Disney including its hit series Hannah Montana in 2007 and was cast as the pop star Mikayla. On the same year, she also filmed two spin-off film of Suite Life series titled Arwin and the series Lizzie McGuire titled Stevie Sanchez. She later joined the Disney series Wizards of Waverly Place as the lead role of Alex Russo which became a hit for the network and receives numerous awards and nominations. Later that year, she appeared on numerous Disney series and voiced an animated film Horton Hears a Who for the character of Helga. The film was a success and grossed almost $300 million worldwide.

Throughout her television career, she starred in numerous films including Another Cinderella Story, Princess Protection Program, Monte Carlo, Spring Breakers, A Rainy Day in New York and even the voice behind the character of Mavis in Hotel Transylvania. She later executive produce a television adaptation of Thirteen Reasons Why.

Gomez signed a recording contract with the Hollywood Records label at the age of 16 and formed her own production company called July Moon Productions. She released three albums Kiss and Tell, A Year Without Rain and When the Sun Goes Down which peaked within the top ten in the US Billboard. Additionally, she released another three albums as a solo artist: Stars Dance, Revival and Rare which also ranked at the Billboard 200.
