Cédric Ricardo Alves Soares is a Portuguese right-back currently on loan at Fulham from Arsenal. He has played for the youth and senior Portuguese national teams. Soares has played for many clubs throughout his long career including Sporting, Académica, Southampton, and Inter Milan.

Cédric Soares was born on 31 August 1991 in Germany before his family moved back to their home country, Portugal, in 1993. Soares started his football career at the young age of 7 when he joined Sporting CP’s youth system.

Soares’s debut for Sporting’s first team was a 1-0 loss to Vitória de Setúbal in May 2011. His first goal for the Lisbon side was scored in a 1-1 draw against Nacional in December 2012. Soares was also part of the team that reached and won the 2015 Taça de Portugal against Braga.

Cédric scored a total of two goals across 93 appearances for Sporting.

The Portuguese footballer was loaned out to Academica for most of the 2011-12 season. He ironically helped his temporary club defeat Sporting to lift the Taça de Portugal on 20 May 2012.

Southampton signed the right-back in June 2015 in 4-year deal worth £4,700,000.

Cédric’s debut match for Southampton was a 3-0 victory over Vitesse in July 2015. His first goal for the English club came 3 years later in a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic on 18 March 2018.

Soares played 138 matches and scored 3 goals for Southampton. He was part of the team that came second in the 2016/17 EFL CUP.

The Portuguese footballer was loaned out to Inter Milan for the rest of the 2018/19 season. The deal was worth £400,000.

His first game for the Italian side was a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to Lazio. He went on to only make 9 appearances for Inter Milan before returning to England.

Soares was once again loaned out to another club, fellow Premier League side, Arsenal, in January 2020.  The Portuguese right-back made the move permanent when his contract at Southampton expired 6 months later. He currently earns £3,900,000 per year or £75,000 per week at Arsenal.

Cédric’s first game for The Gunners was a 4-0 victory over Norwich City. He managed to score his first goal for Arsenal on his debut.

The right-back was recently loaned out to Fulham, where he is set to spend the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Soares has made appearances for Portugal’s under-20, under-21, and senior teams. He was part of the squad that came second at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

Cédric’s debut match for the Portuguese senior team was a 1-2 defeat to France. The right-back and his teammates got their revenge 2 years later when they defeated the French 1-0 to be crowned UEFA Euro 2016 champions.

Soares scored his first goal for the national senior team in a 2-2 draw against Mexico in 2017. He was part of the squad that represented Portugal at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Soares is skilled both offensively and defensively and while he is not a prolific goal scorer himself, he creates lots of opportunities for his teammates.
