Jakub Kiwior is a Polish footballer who currently plays as a center-back defender for the Premier League club Arsenal and the Poland national team. He is the second new addition to the Arsenal squad in 2023, after Leandro Trossard, and was given the number 15 shirt.

Life of Jakub Kiwior

Jakub Piotr Kiwior was born in Tychy, Poland on the 15th of February 2000. He began his career by playing for his hometown team, GKS Tychy. At the age of 16, he was noticed by the Belgian professional club R.S.C. Anderlecht, after which, he decided to move to Belgium to pursue greater opportunities.

However, over time, Kiwior noticed that there were more opportunities outside of Belgium. So he decided to move to Slovakia in January 2019 and joined Železiarne Podbrezová. He made his senior debut against Nitra the day after turning 19, celebrating with a 3-1 victory. Kiwior was then transferred to MŠK Žilina, a Slovak football club, where he had two successful seasons.

On August 31, 2021, Kiwior signed a deal with Spezia Calcio, a club based in La Spezia, Italy. He was given a starting position at the San Siro in a Serie A match against Inter Milan three months after his arrival.

During his debut season with the club, Kiwior spent most of the time as a defensive midfielder. He helped his club avoid relegation by six points. Kiwior was later switched to center-back and was featured 20 times.

Because of his early performances for the country, Kiwior's position in Poland's World Cup team became a guarantee despite only having five caps before the competition. He was picked for the 26-man team that traveled to Qatar for the World Cup in 2022.

Kiwior started all four of Poland’s games, helping them to victory in a win over Saudi Arabia and Mexico in their first two games. Despite losing to Argentina in the last group match, Poland managed to reach round 16 for the first time in 36 years. The eventual champions France eliminated them in the knockout stages.
